Properties and benefits of Magnesium

Magnesium is an inorganic chemical that whenever it is ingested through food or supplements, it is going to be integrated into your body structures such as bone tissues and internal organs, etc.

Due to its inorganic state, magnesium does not provide the same energy as carbohydrates, proteins, and fatty acids. However, more precisely, it is an element of human body enzymes in charge of certain specific biological activities, such as the Krebs cycle that is designed for energy production.

Magnesium is also active in the blood clotting process and gives the best possible performance in the immune system. In addition, magnesium is necessary to preserve the concentration and electric powered potential of each cell.

The properties and health benefits of magnesium are so many that we cannot ignore them. It acts as an anti-aging agent, protects us from heart problems, reduces blood pressure, protects us against diabetes, prevents kidney stones and protects us from osteoporosis. You can take magnesium as a supplement to protect you from various diseases. Below, we will discuss some of the different benefits of magnesium.

1. It helps reduce the risk of age related problems

Studies show that magnesium reduces the risk of problems related to aging in general as well as age-related vision disorders. A study published in the British Journal of Medicine reveals that eating a portion and half of green vegetable soup (the green vegetable soup is a good source of magnesium) gives the body 14% of its recommended daily intake. Therefore, this is enough to reduce blood glucose levels in the body to normal levels. This is a factor that also leads to a reduction in the risk of aging eyes.

2. Heart disease

Magnesium is very important for the proper functioning of the human heart and prevents heart disease. The action of the heart muscle is coordinated and maintained by magnesium. This mineral also helps the nerves that control the heartbeat. Therefore, by taking the appropriate amount of magnesium consistently, you can ensure the proper functioning of your heart.

Magnesium has successfully been used to treat patients with migraines and it actually reduced the pain. It is said that the lack of certain types of magnesium can also cause migraines.

3. Magnesium helps reduce the risk of angina

Angina is characterized by severe chest pain, which occurs as a result of your coronary arteries going into spasms. Magnesium helps reduce the risk of such cramps, which reduces the risk of angina.
In the case of a patient suffering from a heart attack, magnesium benefits are enormous. It has been shown that a magnesium injection applied to heart attack patients stabilizes heartbeat, increases coronary artery and reduces blood clots.

4. Blood pressure and diabetes

Magnesium is used to reduce the human blood pressure and place it in a balanced state. On the other hand, it has also been proven that magnesium can help reduce the risk of developing diabetes as it helps reduce blood glucose levels.

I take magnesum before going to bed, one teaspoon with a glass of slightly warm water, it helps relaxing and make me sleep through the night in a way that I was not able anymore. It’s a real saviour for people like me that have problems to fall asleep in a regular manner.

That’s a lot of good reason to take this mineral as supplement to your diet but, is there any side effects or are there any known issues associated with the persistent intake?

It must be remembered that abusing supplements is never good. In fact, there are many side effects due to a magnesium overdose. They are similar to those that occur in the event of a deficiency, but occur more frequently and more seriously. They include:

      -Changes in mental status
      -Nausea
      -Diarrhea
      -Loss of appetite
      -Muscle weakness
      -Respiratory difficulties
      -Low pressure
      -Arrhythmias

So, before beginning to take any supplement, in case of doubts, especially regarding the dosage, it is always advisable to consult a doctor.
